buildinggurus014hicon1Erin Mayer brings broad-spectrum experience to the recruiting arena. She began with a background in sales and found she had a natural ability coupled with a strong desire to find a win/win situation for her clients. After graduating with a marketing degree from Minnesota State University Moorhead, she began working for Rikka Brandon as Director of Business Development for an international recruiting company specializing in the building materials industry. Her diligence and determination proved to be the driving force that helped explode the company from three clients to more than 100 in the span of a single year.

It was always understood that Erin would be promoted to sales manager within only two years of her initial employment with her company. She took on the role and managed a team of greener recruiters while continuing to drive business for the company.

Over the years, Erin has developed a profound understanding of client needs, cultures and values. She eventually became partner with Rikka Brandon and together, they formed Building Gurus; an international recruiting company specializing in the building materials industry. Their focus continues to be on providing exceptional service to their clients and candidates.

Building Gurus’ clients include Fortune 100 manufacturers of commercial and residential building materials as well as smaller dealers and distributors. They boast clients such as Armstrong World Industries, Pella Windows & Doors, BASF, and Boise Cascade among many others. Erin has learned that each company has a unique need- whether it’s a desire to hire an A-Player who will increase market share and drive revenues or a need for just the right Plant General Manager who will reduce waste, utilize Six Sigma, and pull off a total plant turnaround. Erin’s focus is definitely on working for her clients and on uncovering those needs. She can as easily negotiate the nuances of a national vendor agreement as she can exclusive and retained searches. Adaptability is definitely one of her many strengths.

An expert in finding, recruiting and placing candidates in the building materials industry, Erin has filled positions in sales, marketing, branch management, regional sales management, plant management, project management, and many others. Her placement rate is 230% above the national average for recruiters, which is why her clients continue to work with her

Erin applies a huge dose of Midwestern values to all she does. She believes in doing what she says she’ll do, is honest in all communications and she listens. She understands clients are usually very busy so her contacts are brief and to the point.

She treats her candidates with candor. If he or she is not right for a job, she’ll tell them. If her client’s expectations are off, she’ll point it out and will make suggestions based on her knowledge of the marketplace.

Her intuitive ability is why her replacement rate is uncharacteristically low. It’s not only what a candidate is saying, but also what they don’t say that speaks volumes. She listens for tone of voice, hesitant answers and inconsistencies – all red flags that indicate the candidate is not being forthcoming. Only those who pass her rigorous screening process ever make it to a client interview.

Erin is committed to the growth of her community economically, socially, and environmentally. She is a mentor to other young women, volunteers at the humane society and donates to local causes.
