Search Process

Our search process uses a building-block approach. The first step in a Building Gurus search is the most critical because it sets the foundation for all future success. We begin the process with an in-depth discussion with the hiring manager or decision-maker to gain a thorough knowledge of the structure of the company and the hiring needs, the company culture and what has and has not worked for you in the past. This initial interview is essential to determine the needs of the company, the time frame involved, and the degree of urgency.

 

Once we have a solid understanding, we dig in. The second step is to search our extensive database for strong candidates who would be a good match for your company. These potential candidates may be seeking a new and exciting opportunity or they may be content with their current employment. Either way, they are in the heart of the building industry and can be a valuable networking tool. We also utilize online resources to find viable candidates. And we use a variety of reputable resources in order to discover the absolute top talent. We never limit ourselves to just one method or source. One of our most valuable assets – direct recruiting – has proven time and time again to deliver real impact for our clients.

Category A – Top Priority

Meets all four criteria

  • Position is marketable
  • Client’s reputation is solid
  • Compensation and benefits package is competitive
  • Client communication and process is timely and consistent

Category B – Mid-Level Priority

Meets two of above criteria.

Client communication is timely and effective

 

Category C – Lowest Priority

Search consists of poor client communication.

Poor or lacking communication can negate even the most positive attributes of a search

Then the search begins.

 

1. Sourcing
We use a buckshot approach to sourcing, never knowing where the right candidate will be:

  1. Direct Recruiting – talking to people in the same job
  2. Networking – talking to people who work with the targeted individual – customers, fellow associate members, etc.
  3. Mining our extensive database
  4. Online Social Networking
  5. Job Postings
  6. Online Resume Access
  7. Resume Search Tools

 

2. Screening

  1. No fewer than 25 people who meet the specifications are contacted
  2. Of that 25 about 10 make it past the initial screen
  3. A qualifying contact is made to ensure they meet all requirements of the position
  4. Once a person is qualified, the recruiter will conduct an in-depth interview

3. Interview

After thousands and thousands of interviews, Building Gurus recruiters have developed several successful interviewing methods and are able to detect subtle indicators of dishonesty or exaggeration. We are not afraid to ask the tough questions in order to weed out less desirable candidates.

4. Presentation

Once the first candidate is presented to the hiring manager, open communication between the recruiter and the hiring manager is vital to make sure everyone is on the same track. If not, adjustments are made. At that point additional 3-5 candidates are presented for consideration.

Once the candidate is in process, the recruiter is available to assist with:

  • Scheduling Interviews
  • Arranging travel
  • Covering Compensation/Non-Compete issues/Concerns
  • Qualifying interest in position
  • Finding out about other opportunities or reasons they may not accept the job
  • Reference checking
  • Assisting the client with extending the right offer
